Being vegetarian in Canada

An interesting fact about me to know is the fact that I am vegetarian and this is for many reasons. Everything started two years ago when my mom stopped eating meat, which made me think more about where meat comes from and under which circumstances animals had to live before being slaughtered. Anyway, dealing with this very subject for a while, I decided to stop eating meat.  Being vegetarian for the past year I had to deal with many challenges but living in Canada – a meat eating world – I had a tough time.

Before planning our trip to Canada, I knew that they like eating meat but living there showed me that they adore it. My friend and I, we both lived in a host family in North Vancouver. Living there, we were depended on what our host mother cooked. Every day at lunch and at dinner they cooked meat. For me, as vegetarian, the only thing I could eat were the side dishes like rice or salad and we spent one month there.. Spending our time there we experienced so many awesome things, dealing with this particular subject and spending one month just easting rice and salad was not easy, though.

Formula 1 - Austin 2014

I am kind of addicted to watching Formula 1 races. People who read my blog regularly might have noticed that I love talking about this subject. Since the new season has just started and so new regulations were introduced, there is a lot I can talk about. I want to start with the first race, though.
The first race of this season took place last weekend. (Important information: my favourite team is Red Bull). Since the new engines were introduced and many changes had been made, no one knew what to expect. Everything started on Friday in their first training sessions. Mercedes was always ahead of the other teams. On Saturday, when the qualification took place, Ricciardo did an excellent job. Sebastian Vettel had problems with the engine of his car and ended up on the 12th position. On Sunday the race took place. The first problems had occurred in the installation lap when two of the Marussia pilots could not even start the engine of their cars. Sebastian Vettel had a major problem with his car – I just do not know what it exactly was – too complicated for a girl like me. However, the rest of the race went smoothly apart from 7 cars not reaching the finishing line. In the end, Rosberg won this race ahead of Ricciardo and Magnussen. The two rookies did an excellent job. A few hours later, though, Ricciardo was disqualified from the race because I don’t know what happened.

Summing up, my favourite team had an awful weekend and I hate the new regulations that had been introduced.

To blog or not - that is the question!

The new semester has just started and I am definitely ready to face the new challenges. One main part our grade will consist of is our blogging. Our last semester’s task was blogging too. To improve it and to avoid the mistakes we tended to make last semester, we now have to rummage in our fellow students’ blogs and find out what defines a good one and which features it has to include.

Julia K‘s blog is definitely one of my favourites. She talked a lot about her experiences when it comes to studying languages. Sometimes doing so can be challenging and her writing about it in a passionate way, makes it interesting to read her blog. Therefore, things like talking about someone’s own experiences always makes a blog interesting worthwhile to read.

Another interesting blog was Josepha’s. Josepha mostly talked about different cultures and how travelling can be defying as a vegan. Since learning new things about different cultures is always interesting for me, blog entries like that always catch my sight.

The third blog I really liked was Alexandra’s. To keep the readers interest, she blogged regularly and organised her blogs well. To explain the facts she talked about and to make everything clearer, she posted numerous pictures.

Summing up, blogging can be challenging because sometimes it is not easy to come up with new ideas that are interesting, entertaining and eye-catching at the same time. As I said, though, I am ready to face the new challenges. J
