Formula 1 - second update

I know, the guideline said no posts will be accepted after midday June 21st, but I had to wait for the Qualification to take place until I could write this one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

Today was the day of the qualification of the Austrian GP. While Williams did an excellent job, Red Bull - especially Vettel - failed findind the right setup.

At 1400 the first quali session started. As the previous races had shown, Mercedes was ahead of all the others. Williams did an excellent job.. But ... Even in Q1 Red Bull failed. Vettel ended up being on P15.

Q1 was disappointing for Red Bull too. While Ricciardo did a great job, Vettel just was not fast enough.

Q3 really was interesting to watch. Williams managed winning the Pole Position. Hamilton, however, couldn't manage producing a good lap and didn't set a time. Williams deserves winning the Pole, though.

After the Qualifying session, we watched the GP2 race. It was interesting to watch...since I didn't know any of the. Drivers, it was a bit confusing, though.

All in all, I had a great day :-)

Formula 1 update

You all know that I am in Spielberg for the Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend. On Friday, we were there for the Publik pit Walk. After waiting for 2.5 hours, we finally could enter the Pit Lane and see the teams prepare for the racing weekend. Also we could see one team, Caterham, exercising their pit stops.

On Friday we watched the free practice session, which was interesting. Mercedes was ahead of all the others. Red Bull was struggling and ended up being on position 6 and 7. the most shocking thing, though, was the face that Formula 1 isn't as loud as it was before. :o

I am gonna give you another update today in the evening after the Qualifying tool place.

Formula 1 in SPIELBERG - I've got the tickets

I know this is my 1232300124th post relating to Formula 1, but I’ve got awesome news. However, first of all I want to talk about the previous races.

The last race probably was the most interesting one of this season. The start, the crash in the first lap,… Everything was just interesting to watch. From lap 37 on, Mercedes was struggling with problems concerning their break by wire system, which led to the fact that Lewis Hamilton couldn’t finish the race. Rosberg, however did an incredible job and finished the race on the second position. But who won the race? None of the experts expected that to happen. Daniel Ricciardo scored his first victory. I am so happy for him. He definitely deserves it.. not only because my favorite team is Red Bull Racing. He is an excellent driver.
And, the most important thing.. do you know what’s happening next weekend? Of course … next weekend the Formula 1 Grand Prix is going to take place in SPIELBERG and I’ve got the tickets J so, I’m gonna be there to watch it.

On Thursday we are going to join the Public Pit Lane Walk. There you can watch the teams prepare their cars for the racing weekend. On Friday we are going to watch the second training session, on Saturday the third training session and the Qualification. And what’s the most important day of the weekend: SUNDAY of course. On Sunday there isn’t only the Legends Parade where you can experience former Austrian Formula 1 drivers from the past live in action; it is also the day the race takes place.

I am so looking forward to spending the weekend at SPIEL

Studying English

When I decided to study Transkulturelle Kommunikation in the year of 2011 I thought doing so won’t be challenging. I thought my language skills were good enough. After taking the entrance exam in English, though, I knew this won’t be just a piece of cake. I didn’t even pass the exam the first time I took it.
However, the first semester started and I enjoyed studying my second foreign language more and more. To keep up and improve my English I attended language courses and did a good job… but let’s skip my first year of studies.
Since I managed to pass the entrance exam in English I could finally attend the course Sprache und Kultur 1 and I still though this is going to be manageable. When I had my first PC, though, I learned that it wasn’t. My Grammar and Vocab part was so so bad. My Writing part was kind of good (4+) but it didn’t help me pass this exam. The second exam was better but still not good enough (57%). My writing part again was positive and my vocab and grammar part just horrible. After scoring just 58 or 59% on my last PC, I didn’t manage passing the course. Due to new regulations, though, I could attend the course Sprache und Kultur 2. After having a disappointing semester, I didn’t pass this course either.
After spending one month in Canada, I felt like I could finally manage to pass this course. I even passed PC 2 and PC 3… buuut.. Since my first PC was so bad, I didn’t pass the course. Now I’m in the second semester again and still don’t know whether I can pass this course or not.

Summing up, I learned that my language level just wasn’t high enough when I first started studying English.. My English has improved a lot since then. Still, I don’t know whether I can pass this course..

By new hobby ♥

Those who know me know that I love biking. One year ago, though, I was always the lazy one who was never into sports, never even wanted to go for a walk or even walk to University. This changed last year..
Last year my family and my neighbours decided to go biking. First of all I did not want to since I had not been biking in ages and to sum it up, I was just lazy  :-P. After a while, though, they managed to convince me. Biking after ages was horrible, my legs hurt, I was short of breath and the other day I swore to god I won’t ever do this again in my whole live. A few hours later, however, I was biking again. I don’t know why and it was more fun than the last time. The whole summer through I was biking every week twice or at least once and the more often I was biking, the more enjoyed it.

This year I thought about buying a new bike. My mom and Werner both tried to convince me not to – did not work. After one month I bought my new bike and it looks just awesome. From now on I tried to go biking as often as possible. My plan for this summer is to participate in a cycle marathon.

The end of an amazing area

The end of an amazing area

(Spoiler alert, don’t read this before watching the final episode of HIMYM)

“It was at times a long, difficult road. But I’m glad it was long and difficult because if I hadn’t gone through hell to get there, the lesson might not have been as clear. You see, kids, right from the moment I met your mom, I knew: I have to love this woman as much as I can for as long as I can, and I can never stop loving her, not even for a second. I carried that lesson through every stupid fight we ever had, every 5 am Christmas morning, every sleepy Sunday afternoon, through every speed bump, every pang of jealousy or boredom or uncertainty that came our way. I carried that lesson with me.”
Future Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor)
How I Met Your Mother 9x24 “Last Forever, Part 2”

This is how the last episode of my favorite TV show “How I met your mother” should have ended, just like this. This would have been just perfect. It even made me cry for several times.  The creator of the show meant to ruin the whole show, though. I want to start up with how much I loved this show, how everything started and why.

The first episode of How I met your Mother aired in 2005. At the beginning I couldn’t understand why everything loved this show so much. This Barney guy seemed to be just a stupid guy for me. All his stupid ways to pick up girls made me angry. After a while, though, when a friend of mine talked about this show I thought, why shouldn’t I start watching it, why not? Maybe it’s worth it.

Since I can’t stand watching the German version of TV shows I, from now on, started watching this show in English of course. In just a short period of time I had watched all the episodes and I became kind of addicted. The seasons went by and the more episodes I had watched, the more I loved this show. All this time Ted tried to fight for his beloved Robin, the time he fell in love with this beautiful girl named Tracy, I shared the thrill with all the main characters. Especially when I heard the last quote I had tearful eyes and thought this was the best way the show could have possibly ended. After a few seconds, however, I was shocked.

After Ted finishing his story of how he met the love of his life, his kids just said. No, this can’t just be the story of how you met mom - this is the story of how you totally are interested in Aunt Robin. After hearing this I was even more shocked. When he showed up at her apartment with the blue French horn in hand, I thought this can’t be it. Noooo way. First of all, Robin??? Why? This show had proved several times that they aren’t meant for each other.. And.. the name of “How I met your mother” is totally inappropriate. It should be renamed: How Ted finally asked his kids to date Robin and how he got their permission.

Stupid.  As much as I loved this show, it doesn’t change the fact how it ened.

SS14

Hello guys.. I am sorry I haven’t posted anything in a long time. Sometimes it’s not easy to come up with an interesting topic to write about. However, since one month of this lovely “Sommersemester “has already went past, it is time to draw a résumé about my personal thoughts, the courses I am taking and what I had to do so far.

First of all it is important to know that I have to take three English courses this semester. Those are “SUK2”, “Language in Use” and “Language production skills”. Collateral I am in two German and one Sign Language course. Therefore, I had many things to do so far. Studying English always is challenging. Especially when you have to take more courses than you usually do.

The semester started as usual. In our first Sign Language we defined our schedule, the same in all the other classes. Week went past quickly. When week two started, though, the first homework had to be done, videos had to be filmed and I had to start studying for my first exam. Everything went smoothly, except . I am not happy with the results of my first pieces of homework.. I know I have to do a better job next time. However, the weeks went by and more and more pieces of homework had to be done and many other things. Especially the last week before our easter break was exhausting. Starting up with our first PC ( I hope I did a good job on this one), many pieces of homework to do again, everything had an end with me finishing up my Food magazine article. I hope I did a good job this semester so far and deserve this looooong Easter break :)

Being vegetarian in Canada

An interesting fact about me to know is the fact that I am vegetarian and this is for many reasons. Everything started two years ago when my mom stopped eating meat, which made me think more about where meat comes from and under which circumstances animals had to live before being slaughtered. Anyway, dealing with this very subject for a while, I decided to stop eating meat.  Being vegetarian for the past year I had to deal with many challenges but living in Canada – a meat eating world – I had a tough time.

Before planning our trip to Canada, I knew that they like eating meat but living there showed me that they adore it. My friend and I, we both lived in a host family in North Vancouver. Living there, we were depended on what our host mother cooked. Every day at lunch and at dinner they cooked meat. For me, as vegetarian, the only thing I could eat were the side dishes like rice or salad and we spent one month there.. Spending our time there we experienced so many awesome things, dealing with this particular subject and spending one month just easting rice and salad was not easy, though.

Formula 1 - Austin 2014

I am kind of addicted to watching Formula 1 races. People who read my blog regularly might have noticed that I love talking about this subject. Since the new season has just started and so new regulations were introduced, there is a lot I can talk about. I want to start with the first race, though.
The first race of this season took place last weekend. (Important information: my favourite team is Red Bull). Since the new engines were introduced and many changes had been made, no one knew what to expect. Everything started on Friday in their first training sessions. Mercedes was always ahead of the other teams. On Saturday, when the qualification took place, Ricciardo did an excellent job. Sebastian Vettel had problems with the engine of his car and ended up on the 12th position. On Sunday the race took place. The first problems had occurred in the installation lap when two of the Marussia pilots could not even start the engine of their cars. Sebastian Vettel had a major problem with his car – I just do not know what it exactly was – too complicated for a girl like me. However, the rest of the race went smoothly apart from 7 cars not reaching the finishing line. In the end, Rosberg won this race ahead of Ricciardo and Magnussen. The two rookies did an excellent job. A few hours later, though, Ricciardo was disqualified from the race because I don’t know what happened.

Summing up, my favourite team had an awful weekend and I hate the new regulations that had been introduced.

To blog or not - that is the question!

The new semester has just started and I am definitely ready to face the new challenges. One main part our grade will consist of is our blogging. Our last semester’s task was blogging too. To improve it and to avoid the mistakes we tended to make last semester, we now have to rummage in our fellow students’ blogs and find out what defines a good one and which features it has to include.

Julia K‘s blog is definitely one of my favourites. She talked a lot about her experiences when it comes to studying languages. Sometimes doing so can be challenging and her writing about it in a passionate way, makes it interesting to read her blog. Therefore, things like talking about someone’s own experiences always makes a blog interesting worthwhile to read.

Another interesting blog was Josepha’s. Josepha mostly talked about different cultures and how travelling can be defying as a vegan. Since learning new things about different cultures is always interesting for me, blog entries like that always catch my sight.

The third blog I really liked was Alexandra’s. To keep the readers interest, she blogged regularly and organised her blogs well. To explain the facts she talked about and to make everything clearer, she posted numerous pictures.

Summing up, blogging can be challenging because sometimes it is not easy to come up with new ideas that are interesting, entertaining and eye-catching at the same time. As I said, though, I am ready to face the new challenges. J

St. Patrick

The most fascinating aspect of Irish culture that I learned about by watching the Story of Ireland was the story of how St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. St. Patrick was born in Scotland. This makes the story of how he came here even more interesting. First he was taken as a slave and was brought to Ireland. In his first revelation, he was told to leave the country. In his 2nd revelation, in his home country, he learned that he had to go back to Ireland as a missionary to care for the Christians living there and convert non-Christians. On top of this, the way he used a shamrock explained the entities, three people in one God, is fascinating. It is also intriguing that the day of his death, March 17th, is still celebrated in Ireland and numerous other countries. America Rivers are coloured in green and big parade are held every year on St. Patrick’s Day. These aspects of the St. Patrick story show his continued influence and this is what makes one of the most fascinating aspects of Irish culture.

2000 euros : Dublin

If I had the chance to plan a trip to Ireland for the Easter Break with a budget of €2000, my destination would definitely be Dublin, since I have not been there before and I am interested in Irish culture.

€500: flight
I would book a flight with Austrian Airlines with a seat in business class. Since I want to enjoy it I would not mind spending more money on it: Food, a blanket, drinks and a television would be included.

€700: accommodation
To have an amazing stay here I would book a room in one of the best hotels in the city, with a breath-taking view, a huge room, a five courses meal in the evening and many other special features.

€400: car
To explore the city and country in general I would rent a car, as there are many sights in the outskirts and it is hard to get there. Some sights I would want to visit are: Blarney Castle, Cliffs of Moher, Dublin International House, Limerick, Cork and Blarney Castle, Guiness Storehouse, New grange, Ring of Kerry Rail and many other things.

€200: lunch
Breakfast and Dinner would be included. The only meal I would have to care and spend money on is lunch. Since I have not been to Ireland before, would want to visit the most popular restaurants to taste the local food.

€200: for the waiter/waitress
Since I am expecting to come across a nice waitress/waiter, I plan to tip €200.

= €2000

I would love to spend one month in Ireland. Unfortunately, I do not have the chance to plan a trip like that L

American Culture

Since I did not pass SUK1 last year and not studying the American CLI’S  one of the reasons was, I want to do a better job this year. One topic that always confused me was the Capitol.  The American government has three branches, the Legislative, Judicial and Executive. There exists a system called ‘’checks and balances’’ and there are also representatives, a present and many other important figures. This year I think, I have a better idea of how this whole thing works.

So.. To pass a law, an idea of how to change something has to come up. Only the president is not allowed to do so. Then this new idea will be discussed, maybe changed. The Representatives job is then, to vote for it. When the majority agrees with it, it can be sent to the Senate. With them the same thing happens. When the majority says ‘’yes’’, the final law can be sent to the president. He can either veto, pocket-veto or accept it.
About the system of ‘’checks and balances’’: The three branches of US Government, they all have the same power and none of them can become more powerful.

To do a better job on this PC I want to study American Culture a lot and do my best, not get nervous..

Legal English

When you think writing business letters is hard, you definitely have not had to write legal texts. They are a piece of cake. Honestly, I experienced sitting in a Legal English course and learning all these terms was not easy at all but I will come to that later.
Last year, when I had the chance to choose the courses I want to take, I signed up for a Legal English course. I expected it to be easy and thought I would not have to study a lot for it. With this attitude I came to our first class. At the beginning our teacher introduced herself to us. I forgot her name but she is from Canada and a kind person. However, then we had to introduce ourselves to her. Our first class was easy cheesy. No complicated legal terms, nothing special. I thought I was right and was happy.
This ended in our second class. There we had to bring our books with us, studied legal terms, all in a high register. The whole semester we had to study a lot, write letters, other texts… In the end I managed to pass this course with a three, it was not easy though.

Irish History yay

Both historical events The Great Famine and the financial crisis caused emigration. While there is an obvious connection between these two items, there are also a number of significant differences. Firstly, the Great Famine was the result of the failure of a potato crop, which provoked a bad disease and made the potatoes inedible. Since the Irish were dependent on potatoes, it had a huge effect. The Financial crisis, however, was caused by an unsuccessful attempt of Valera to establish the independence of the Republic of Ireland in the time of World War 2. Secondly, the short-term effects were also different. Whereas the main effects of the Great famine were the dropping birth and marriage rate and also death, the results of the financial crisis were stagnation and unemployment. Lastly, the difficulty of trading was different. While in the time of the financial trading was not easy, in the time of the Great Famine it was easier. Summing up, both historical events, the Great Famine and the financial crisis, caused emigration but the reason for this happening and the effects were different.

My experience with Invisalign

When you read my blog regularly, you will notice that this is not my first post about Invisalign. Since, I think I did not give you the right impression of what it really is in the first place, I want to give myself a second try. However, let’s start it..
You might all know that I had my teeth straightened with Invisalign.  My treatment had started almost two years ago and it took me one and a half years to finish everything up. What I like about Invisalign trays is the fact that you can barely see them. Most people did not even notice that I was wearing those 22 hours each day. Additionally, they hurt less than brackets. Also you have the chance to take them out when you brush your teeth. The only thing I really do not like about them is the fact that you still have to wear plastic trays even once you have finished your treatment. But.. How does this whole thing work?

  1.  You make an appointment with your orthodontist and discuss your options. Once you have agreed on the treatment
  2. Dental impressions are made – then you have to wait 2 weeks
  3. To see the video of how your treatment will look like and how your teeth will look in the end.
  4. Then You have to wait one month until your plastic trays are prepared
  5. From now on you have to wear your Invisalign trays. Every second week you get another pair of trays.
  6. The length of the treatment depends on how your teeth look and the price is always the same.
