A bit of Irish History..

Both, Daniel O’Connell and O’Neill were Irish men and both tried to fight for their rights. Nevertheless, their ambitions, the fight itself and the way everything ended up was different. When we examine their goals, we can see that Daniel O’Connell believed in human rights and wanted to bring the Catholic Church into Irish politics. O’Neill’s plan, on the contrary, was to protect his family’s estate from the British. When we look at their fight we find that O’Connell caused a large conflict because one section of the Irish population – the Protestants – feared his rising. On the other hand O’Neill failed in fighting his battles, despite succeeding in the first battle – in the Battle of the Yellow Ford in cooperation with O’Donnell. After asking the Spanish for help and trying to push further, they lost the second battle. Lastly, the way everything ended up was the following. Daniel O’Connell was seen as a revolutionary from now on, while O’Neill and his family had to leave Ireland for Europe to remain safe. All in all, O’Neill and O’Connell had the same approach to fight for their rights, the results of their fighting and the way in which they were seen in the end was not similar.
